The months of June and July are synonymous with Google searches like “ideas to keep my kids busy during holidays,” along with dreads about getting out of the shower and hitting the cold air. We know how school holidays can be, and while everyone heads off to one or other Southern Africa safari lodge, the only place you need to be is on the waterways and exploring the forests at Kosi Forest Lodge, iSimangaliso Wetland Park.

1. Uninterrupted Family Time

We’ll just cut to the chase and start off by saying that there’s no Wi-Fi, but you’ll realise why. At Kosi Forest Lodge, our Netflix equivalent is the theatre of nature surrounding us. Paradise is tangible as we’re located in one of the few remaining parts of the world still preserved, still untouched, and still as nature intended. We’re so proud of our eco-lodge that we’re sure Sir David Attenborough would approve of how we have worked in harmony with nature and local communities.

2. June / July School Holidays Sans Winter

"Children

We’re a Southern Africa rustic yet romantic eco-lodge forgotten by winter’s wrath, with daily temperatures in the mid-20s and the Indian Ocean waters warm and wetsuit-free. However, that doesn’t mean that you should skip the bottle of red; it’s instead an opportunity to enjoy every sip underneath a canopy of trees as opposed to a roaring fire. Of course, come prepared for cooler nights, but still pack the sunblock, bikini and shorts, as this is the place for a water-based bush getaway.

3. A Holiday Without Holiday Makers

Kosi Forest Lodge may be running family holiday specials and discounted rates, but that’s not to say that the crowds have flocked our way. We’re hidden from the world, yet easily accessible from Durban and Johannesburg.

We also have just eight thatched eco-rooms – two of which are family suites – which means that even when we are running at full capacity, only twenty lucky people are privileged enough to share our little piece of paradise. The beauty about a stay at Kosi, is that you feel at one with nature, with only canvas and thatch between you and the forest floor. In fact, when you relax in your private outdoor bathroom boma there is nothing but the night sky between you and the moon. Nature lovers and adventurers Kosi Forest Lodge is definitely for you!

4. Family Activities Without Lifting A Finger

Winter School Holidays are filled with activities-induced exhaustion for the kids and entertainer’s fatigue for the parents. When you’re at Kosi Forest Lodge, we take the thinking out of what to do. We’ve got so many nature activities that the only time you’ll have to ‘get creative’ would be on the drive to us, where a game of “I spy with my little eye…” is what we’d recommend for the last stretch in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.
