Gary Koen

Meet Gary, a proud Zimbabwean with a deep connection to the Zambezi. Soon after school, Gary earned a diploma in Tobacco Culture before embarking on a diverse career that has always kept him close to the land and its wildlife. He has also held his Professional Hunters and Guides licence for over 30 years, gaining extensive experience in both guiding and game farm management.

With previous experience as Camp Manager at Sian Simba River Lodge, Gary brings strong leadership and a calm, capable presence to Tsowa Safari Island. His expertise in lodge operations, paired with a lifetime of wilderness knowledge, makes him a trusted and respected host.

An avid fisherman and natural storyteller, Gary’s warm, engaging manner ensures guests feel truly welcome. Committed to the values of sustainable tourism and community partnership, he plays a key role in shaping the authentic, enriching experience that defines a stay at Tsowa Safari Island.
